Letter to Patients About COVID-19

To our SWICFT Cardiology Patients:

This week marks what will hopefully be the peak of the initial wave of COVID-19 infections nationwide. The peak for the state of Florida however is currently projected for the beginning of May. Because this disease is disproportionately causing more severe illness in older individuals with cardiovascular disease, it is critically important that you try to minimize your contact with other people as best you can while this virus remains a local threat. It also appears that across the country, people are choosing not to go to the ER when they are experiencing cardiac symptoms. The presumption is that many treatable cardiac related events are occurring at home.

To address both of these threats and best serve our patients during this pandemic, we have been conducting face-to-face video visits over the last several weeks with most of our scheduled patient appointments. You can expect to spend the same amount of time talking to the doctor that you would during in-office visits. If you need testing and/or an in-office visit, we will make a separate, private appointment for you to come into our relatively empty office. We ask that you do not delay your regularly scheduled appointment to “wait out” this virus. If you are suffering from a condition, allow us as your health care providers to help and provide you with a plan for treatment.

We wish you all good health in this uncertain time and look forward to continue to care for you in the weeks and months ahead.

Sincerely,
